This unit consists of deep, somewhat poorly drained :+oila
of the Colb*= and t4cClave series. These soils have a clay
loam and ailt~ clay loam surface lager and a clan loean
and silty clew loam underl-inF layer. Slopes are 0 t:o j
percent. ?ermeabilit;~ is moderate. Runoff is slow t:o
medium, and the erosion hazarr is slight to moderate.
Available water capacit;% is high. The effective root:ina
death is 60 inches or more. A seasonal fluctuatin~* ~+ater
table is at a depth between 2 and 4 :'Bet.
The soils in this capability unit are suited to most of
the irriPated crops of tre Area. Sa~.t-tolerant crop:,
aurh as barle,~ and suKar beets, are especially suitat~le,
and salt-sentitive crops, suc^ as potatces and onion:, are
unsuitable. T o maintain maximum crop production, tree
soils should be drained. Even if thec are not drained,
they can be used ^or crops, but tie water table should be
maintained at a naerl~ constant level. ?Tnless the we.ter
table is controller, --ields and life of perennial crops,
• such as alfalfa, will be less.
