McClave series. <br />The McClave series is made up of deep, somswhat poorly <br />drained soils, These soils formed on low terraces ar;d <br />bottom lands in loamy alluvium. Slopes are 0 to 1 percent. <br />Elevations are 4,900 to 5,500 feet, The native vegetation <br />is mainly short grasses. Annual precipitation is 12 to 18 <br />inches, Mean annual air temperature is 48° to 52°L'., and <br />the frost-free season is about 140 to 155 days. <br />In a representative profile the surface layer, about tl0 <br />inches thick, is dark gracish-brown and grayish-brown light <br />clay loan that is_mottled in the lower part. The under- <br />lying naterial is mottled, brown light clay loam that <br />extends to a depth of 60 inches or more. Soil reaction <br />is neutral. <br />McClave soils have moderate permeability. Available •aater <br />capacity for the entire profile is high. Roots can o:netrste <br />to a depth of 60 inches or more, and the seasonal hig'.1 water <br />table is at a depth between 2 end 4 feet. <br />These soils are used for irrigated crops and pastures„ <br />Representative profile of McClave clay loam, located <br />950 feet south and 60 feet west of the center of sec.'1, <br />T. 2 K., R.6q 'd. ; <br />• Ao - 0 to 7 inches, dark grayish-brown (10`!R 4/c) <br />light clay loam, very dark brown (10~'R 2j2) <br />when moist; stron3, medium, grannular structure; <br />soft, very friable; neutral; clear, smooth <br />boundary. <br />A1? - 7 to 19 inches, grayish-brown (101'R 5/2) <br />light clay loam, ver^ darts gra~;ish brown <br />(10YR 3/2) when moist; week, fine, sub- <br />angular blocky structure: hard, firm; <br />neutral; ¢radusl, wavy boundary. <br />A13g-1q to 40 inches, grayish-brown (10'rR 5/2) <br />light clay loam with many fine, distinct, <br />brown (7,5YR 5/4) mottles; very dark gray- <br />ish brown (10YR 3/2) when moist; weak, <br />medium, subangular blocky structure; hard, <br />firm; neutral; gradual, wavy boundary, <br />C1g - 40 to 60 inches, brown (10YR 5/3) light cla;t <br />loam With many, large, distinct, brown <br />(7.5~'R 5/4} mottles; brown (10°R 4/3) when <br />moist; massive slightly hard, very friable; <br />neutral. <br />i <br /> <br />
