.. -.
PHC Prediction: There will be no impact on the quality of the Rollins sandstone
groundwater.
According to the data in the report, there was no impact.
PHC Prediction: There will be subsidence-caused dewatering of the strata overlying the
workings.
Since the mine has been closed, there are no more inflow data to demonstrate this.
PHC Prediction: There will be no impact on the alluvial groundwater of Rapid Creek and
Cottonwood Creek.
The data in the AHR indicate that there has been no impact on water levels in the alluvium of
these two streams.
One additional note should be made. It was noted that the hydrochemistry of the outfalls
reported in the AHR are based on "total" values, not dissolved values. Hence, even a small
amount of sediment within the sample makes interpretation of the water chemistry impossible,
since the quoted analyses include the chemistry of the sediment carried in the water. This hadn't
been noted last year but there was a large change in the apparent chemistry of the water from
Discharge O1 this year, but this is likely due to the presence of sediment in the water and not the
chemistry of the water itself.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call.
Jim Burnell
cc: Sandy Brown
