• W
Introduction
The information aaaembled in this 1997 Annual Hydrology Report (AHR) includes data
collected from approved monitoring sites established at Seneca Coal Company's (SCC) Yoaat
M.vna (State Permit No. C-94-082). LoCation9 0! monitoring aitea diacuased in this report
can be found by referring to Exhibit 7-1, Hydrology Monitoring Map, which may be found in
the Yoast Mine Permit Application Package (PAP1.
All references to 1997 (or to "this year") will be for water Yeas 1997 (October 1, 1996
through September 30, 1997) unless otherwise noted. All tables referred to in the
following text can be found in Appendix A. In addition, a table of contents Por Appendix
A is given at the beginning of that appendix.
The Yoaet Mine permit went into effect on August 8, 1995. Overburden removal began in
October 1996. Figure 1 ahoxs the area mined in 1997 (ae "mined out"). All mining thin
year has occurred in the Armand Draw basin.
• '
Field conductivity and pH meters were calibrated prior s use. The
to each day
conductivity meter is calibrated using s potassium chloride solution with an electrical
conductivity in the 1000 to 3000 umhos/cm range. The pH me ter is calibrated using NBS
traceable buffers with pH values of 7 and 10. Lab analyses have been performed by ACZ
Laboratory in Steamboat Springs, Colorado since May 31, 1983. ACZ Laboratory performs all
analyses by EPA os equivalent methods. Samples axe delivered the day of collection to the
lab in an iced cooler.
SCC instituted in 1995 a new monitoring site numbering system for its new ParadoxTM xater
quality database. This new system is detailed in Table A. For convenience sake, this
table has been placed at the end oP the Table of Contents (sea previous page).
Meteorological Data
No meteorological data is collected at the Yoast Mine. SCC maintains a weather station
(wind speed and direction, temperature and precipitation) at its adjacent Seneca II-Si
• Mine. Tha reader is referred to that AHR, Appendix 8. SCC also maintains a precipitation
1
