December 23, 1999
Pa,Ke 27
Labor•nlory Blmrks
The laboratory should process one blank sample for every ]0-20 samples processed. This
data will be provided to American Soda in the laboratory QC report, and will be maintained with
project records.
5.6 External Quality Control Checks-Third-Party Data Validation
The validity of the laboratory water quality data will be assessed annually by a third-party
analytical [aboratory. American Soda intends to preferentially use the USGS analytical laboratory
facilities for third-party validation. Water quality samples will be collected by American Soda
personnel or USGS personnel, at the discretion of the USGS. The monitoring wells will be
sampled in a logical sequence, such that all wells are sampled equally. The third-party laboratory
will analyze parameters from WQ2 (Table 3) and prepare a report documenting the results. A
Colorado-certified analytical laboratory that is not in any other way involved with the Yankee
Gulch Section Minerals Project will be used as a secondary alternative to the USGS laboratory.
5.7 Preventative Maintenance
• If a procedure calls for the use of any instruments, the instrument will be calibrated
according to manufacturer's recommendations. In general, preventative maintenance will follow
procedures from the manufacturer, A schedule of calibration and maintenance will be kept with
the instrument.
5.8 Data Assessment Procedures
Data quality will be evaluated based on sampling techniques and analytical quality
controls. A State of Colorado-certified laboratory will be used, therefore, formalized audits of
laboratory systems by American Soda will not be conducted. Informal audits of field work will be
sufficient to ensure that SOPS are being followed. Performance of both field and laboratory QA
systems will be assessed based on results of laboratory and field quality control samples.
A general evaluation of data quality will consider potential sources of error, including
gross errors, systematic errors, and random errors. The percent difference between duplicate
samples and the analytical results from any blank samples will be evaluated.
5.9 Corrective Action
Corrective action indicators have been developed for deviations from established water
• quality data, process monitoring, and hydrostatic pressure monitoring. The corrective action
criteria for such deviations are presented in this section.
Agapito Associates, lnc.
