Long
Division Director
I have reviewed the following documents for the annual hydrology
review for Munger Mine.
Permit: Sections 2, 3 and 4 with relevant Tables and Figures
1982 Findings Document
1985 Findings Document
1988 Mid-term Review
Revision history; minor and technical and Permit Revision I
NOV history
Annual hydrology reports; 1986 to present
Stipulation history
In short, the Munger mine has been in temporary cessation since May
1984 to present and has never encountered any water in mine inflows
or operations, The coal seam mined in the Carbonera is several
hundred feet above the water table in Salt Wash Creek and its
alluvial bed. The alluvium was drilled with five wells in 1981 for
baseline data. Most wells were found dry with the water table well
below 40 feet, prohibiting subirrigation. There are no
agricultural uses for the water. Water rights are not adjudicated
in the operational or adjacent area. Water rights do exist within
a three mile radius but the mine operation will not effect these
rights for water quality due to the influence of dilution and
quantity is not affected.
No aquifers exist above the coal seams mined in the Munger Mine.
The strata that are saturated are those that dip into and below the
Salt Wash Creek alluvium. None of these strata have been or are
intended to be mined at the Munger Mine.
