stockpiles eastward; as soon as a workable area is completely
cleared, any necessary final grading will be completed and
reseeding and planting will be done. The rate of progress
would be dependent partly on sales from stockpiles, so
phasing is difficult to estimate. The operator proposes
instead that reclamation proceed on and be viewed as a
continuum.
In this way, reclamation can begin on the western end
and be in progress during any period when mining may be
going on at the far eastern end, should the operator mine
any portion of that area (originally Phase II) . Once all
gravel to be mined has been excavated, stockpiles will be
moved eastward, to replace stockpiles depleted by sales,
allowing reclamation to move eastward as well. Operator
believes that, once mining on the western end of the pit is
completed, the reclamation process moving eastward can be
easily completed within five years of its commencement, even
if some concurrent mining is done on the eastern end of the
pit.
Once reclamation of the entire area is complete, the
settling pond or ponds then in use will be allowed to dis-
appear through evaporation and seepage. Should any fill '-be
required to level the affected ground, soil will be hauled
in for that purpose.
-4-
