u

Mr. Rick Mills - 2 - July 17, 1990
3. The following parameters were not analyzed for the September sample
at Site 16 (Fish Creek): total suspended solids, SAR, cadmium
mercury, selenium, silver, iron, manganese, molybdenum, and zinc.
Please explain the omissions.
4. The data listing for site 307 (Fish Creek) indicates that flow
measurements were missed due to a missing plumb bob. This seems to
happen with some frequency. Please be sure to keep replacements on
site so that repair occurs quickly, and so that required
measurements are not missed.
5. The following parameters were not analyzed for the September 1989
sample at site 900 (Foidel Creek): total suspended solids, SAR,
cadmium, mercury, selenium, silver, iron, manganese, molybdenum and
zinc. Please explain these omissions.
6. The data indicate that pH was not analyzed for the October 1988
sample at Station 800 (Foidel Creek), Cadmium, mercury, selenium,
iron, manganese, molybdenum and zinc were missed for the September
1989 sample (Site 800), Please explain the omissions.
Spring Sampling -
1. The monthly field parameters for springs A-2, C-1 and spring 114
(April) were missed. These are considered to be important
samples. Please explain the omissions.
2. Please provide a map of spring locations labeled "OB DIV Ditch" and
"Overburden Pile".
Water Quality Analysis -
1. In general, the water quality analysis provided in the AHR is
reasonable. We are concerned that the possible trend of increasing
salts on Foidel Creek may not be due solely to lower than normal
flows. The slight increase on Trout Creek is also of interest.
Future monitoring results will be evaluated as they become
available.
2. The appearance of an artesian condition at well 006-82-74C is
interesting. It is also interesting to note that the water quality
(total dissolved solids) resembles that of spoil spring water.
Please provide a more detailed analysis of this well. Is there any
relationship between this well and pumping into the Area 2 pit?
Are there any water quality data for the years prior to 1981, if so
please submit the information. Are there any water level data for
the 1984-1981 gap? If so, please provide it. Is there any chance
that completion problems are allowing the well to intercept a
shallower groundwater system?
