The Cash mine dump has a total tonnage of approximately
_ 150,000 tons of material. Sampling has shown that by sorting
and simple upgrading, at least 60,000 tons of this waste dump
material can be raised to an ore grade. Dump production will
commence on the north-eastern portion of the Cash mine dump
z near the ore bin, and proceed south along the eastern face of
the dump. At the completion of the dump sorting and upgrading
operation, the Cash mine dump will be approximately 908 smal-
ler in size. A small front-end loader and dump truck will be
used to rework the Cash mine dump.
Mine production is based on an eight-man mine crew and a two-
man crew on the Cash Dump. This will result in the production
of 9,000 tons of ore and 6,000 tons of dump material per year
at 30 and 20 tons per day, respectively. D]ith the ore re-
serves currently available in and on the surface of the Cash
mine, the operation and production are expected to extend
through 1988. In the event that additional ore reserves are
developed at depth, or along the western extension of the Cash
vein, the Cash mine could be in production through 1992.
Once the necessary permits have been obtained, the reactiva-
tion of the Cash mine will commence with the repair and relo-
cation of the mine access roads (see Exhibit C1). While both
-: of the county roads reach the mine roads at a distance of
about 12 miles from Boulder, the best access to the Cash mine
is County Road No. 52. This road bypasses the small
communities of Crisman, Salina, Summerville and Gold Hill and
it allows access to the mine site under all weather
conditions. However, the mine access road is narrow and very
steep in several places, and it cannot be used to haul ore or
heavy equipment up from the mine to the junction with County
Road No. 52, In the past, ore trucks would follow the road
down from the Cash mine to its junction with County Road No.
69, and then proceed up this road to Gold Hi11 where the
trucks would turn east onto County Road No. 52 which they took
to Boulder. In order to avoid the town of Gold Hill, the mine
access road will have to be relocated so that ore trucks can
drive up from the Cash mine to the junction of County Road No.
52. By constructing several additional switchbacks between
the Jonathan mine and the Cash mine, ore trucks and heavily
loaded vehicles will be able to use this private road for both
ingress and egress. All of the road relocation work will be
done on the Gold Hill Mining Company's patented mining claims.
No U. S. Bureau of Land Management property will be disturbed
or affected by this road relocation work. The amount of
surface acreage affected by this road construction is 0.551
acres.
Once the outside contracting work has been completed, the
daily traffic to the Cash mine site is not expected to exceed
seven vehicles. The Boulder County Public Work's Department's
_ latest average daily traffic volume count on County Road No.
52 at a location approximately one quarter mile east of the
town of Gold Hill is 250. Their average daily traffic volume
count on County Road No. 89 just south of Gold Hill is 100,
and near Salina it is 230. These traffic counts are the ad-
justed daily traffic volumes for 1980.
Since the Cash mine was connected with power lines during its
earlier operation, no land surface will be disturbed when the
power is restored. Thieves stole some of the power lines and
removed the wire from the transformers during the 1970's, and
they will have to be replaced. Once this has been accom-
plished and the master switch house has been repaired, power
will have been restored to the Cash mine.
At the present time, the Cash mine has four small wooden frame
buildings located near the mine shaft collar. These include a
hoist house, a miners' dry room, and two storage buildings.
During the last ten years, these buildings have been repeat-
edly broken into and their contents vandalized and stolen.
The two storage buildings will have to be repaired and the
hoist house enlarged. A 20 x 40 foot metal building is
^ planned to house the mine hoist and compressor, The construc-
tion of this building will have the added advantage of
-3-
