• Background: The mining of Panels 13 Right through 16 Right will result in subsiding segments of
Fish Creek and its alluvial valle}' floor. The monitoring program will be used to evaluate the
following: alluvial water quality and elevation surface water quality and flow and stream gradient and
ponding. Each will be discussed below.
Allu~zum
TCC will utilize the existing P & M alluvial wells to obtain water level and quality data in the NMD.
Additionally, TCC will use existing upstream and downstream wells as conditions allow.
]n reference to 13 Right, an upstream alluvial well will be installed at least one yeaz prior to the
longwall mining witltirt ],000 feet of the AVF located over this panel. The well will be located in the
SW/4 SE/4 of section ]7, TSN, R86W. The well will be installed during the period of June through
August 2001. It will be monitored quarterly for water level and field parameters, and semi-annually
for full suite pazameters. A downstream well for this panel will be established in the NW/4 NE/4
of section 15, TSN, R86W. This well will be installed at the same time as the upstream well, and will
be monitored at the same frequency and for the same parameters as the upstream well.
In reference to Panels 14 Right through 16 Right, only a downstream well will be installed for
monitoring purposes. The new down stream well will be constructed in the NW/4 SW/4 of section
11, TSR, R86W. The well will be installed at least one year prior to mining within 1,000 feet of the
A~~F located over the 14 Right panel. The 13 Right Panel downstream well will be used as the
upstream well for Panels 14 Right through ] 6 Right It will continue to be monitored as previously
discussed. The well to be established in section 11 will be monitored as per the previously described
• schedule.
In reference to the 13 Right Panel downstream well, which will become the upstream well for Panels
14 Right through 16 Right it will subside as a result of mining. In order to understand the elevation
change from the initial base survey it will be surveyed after longwall mining has been completed to
obtain an updated top of case elevation. This will be used as the datum for deterr*~inir,g the water
elevation in the well from that point forward.
Surface Water
An upstream station on Fish Creek will be established at least one year prior to longwall mining
within 1,000 feet of the AVF located over the 13 Right panel. It is anticipated that the station will
be located near the upstream alluvial monitoring well installed in Section 17. The station will be
monitored quatterly for flow and semi-annually for Geld and full-suite pazameters. Additionally, the
site will be gaged periodically during low flow periods to establish a rating curve for the site. At the
time the gage is installed the stream will be rated to provide a stream elevation with the discharge
and gage reading. The stream will be rated two more times prior to November to further develop
the rating curve. Once this is done the station will be rated annually after spring runoff to continue
development of the rating curve. A downstream site for the ] 3 Right panel will be established in the
NW/4 NE/4of section 15, TSN, RSGW. It will be installed during the same period as the upstream
site and monitored at the same frequenry. Also, the same rating procedure will for followed for this
station as the described above.
After mining has been completed in 13 Right the downstream site will move to the north of the next
• panel to be mined. This will continue until Panel 1G Right has been mined. The "moving"
downstream station will be installed at least one year prior to mining within 1,000 feet of the AVF
PR99-OS 03/28/00
