August and October 1979 and January and April 1980. Spring samples for Oak Creek
were taken in June 1980. The samples were preserved in the field with 75% ethanol
~~ and returned to the lab where the organisms were sorted from the debris, identified
and counted. Statistical analysis of the benthic dato for both creeks was run on the
transformed (Io910) data to allow use of parametric tests (Elliott 1977). Tests used
were analysis of variance, which test differences between stations, trend analysis,
which analyses trends observed and the Scheffe test statistic, which allows testing
of one site against the other three or two against two. Species diversity was
calculoted using the Shannon-Weover formula as recommended by (Weber 1973).
The periphyton of Trout Creek were collected in August and October 1979 and
January and April 1980 by scraping submerged substrate surfaces. Material collected
was preserved with 10% formalin. In the lab, I ml samples were placed in a counting
cell to determine relative abundance of The species present.
•

2.7-74
