Io,eland soils, which are moderately deep and poorly drained
with medium to heavy subsoils , occur near South Boulder Creek
in an area of about 18 acres. These soils are underlain by
sand and gravel at a depth of 0 to 12 inches. Much of the
Loveland soil has been recently disturbed by construction
of a flood berm. A small part will not be mined. Figures E=1 , E-2
give. the U.S. Soil Conservation Service (SCS) soils classi-
fications for the site and descriptions of those classifications .
Figure E-3 provides an estimate of the value of the soils
by the SCS District Conservationist.
Niwot and Loveland soils are designated as wet meadow range
• by the SCS. Wet meadow range sites produce an average annual
yield of 3,000 pounds per acre of air-dry herbage, about
1, 500 pounds of which is available for livestock feed.
Geology
Bedrock of the subject property is Pierre shale of the
Cretaceous age. It is covered by 12 to 24 feet of valley-
fill materials of Pleistocene and Recent ages which form the
floodplain of South Boulder Creek. Figure E4 is a geological
cross section of the site. The site is designated an Aggregate
Resource Area by the Boulder County Comprehensive Plan. No
•_ geologic hazards are expected.
E-2
