• either recommended to be not eligible for the National Register, or, in the case of SLA7186, aze
undergoing data recovery as part of a mitigation plan. Field work has been completed at SLA7186,
and a subsequent preliminary report will summarize results and recommend that cultural resource
clearance be granted for all construction at this site (anticipated submission date, September 26,
1997). SLA7112, the railroad, will not be significantly impacted by construction of the power line.
Cultural resource clearance is recommended for the P3 portal power line provided it is
rerouted starting at the mouth of Cow Canyon, to run more directly north to the mine permit
boundary, thus cleazly avoiding SLA1966, and providing SLA7728 is avoided.
Cultural resource clearance is recommended for the water line, with the condition that an
open trench inspection be conducted of that portion on the valley floor of the Picketvvire Valley, and
that any cultural resources discovered during the open trench inspection be recorded and evaluated.
If discovered cultural resources are found to eligible for the National Register, and have been
impacted, appropriate treatment to mitigate those impacts should be pursued. MAC does
recommend that a treatment plan be prepazed in advance to deal with discoveries, should they be
found, thus minimizing the potential for disruption of the construction process.
References Cited
• McKibbin, Anne
1997 Lorencito Canyon Mine: Preliminary Report of 1997 Archaeological Investigations,
Las Animas County, Colorado.
