SHAVANO 8OIL CONSERVATION DIBTRICT
c/o Lester Jones
60489 Carnation Road
Olathe, CO 81425
August 5, 1991
Gunnison County Road Department
11th and Rio Grande
Gunnison, CO 81230
This report was developed with information provided by the Soil
Conservation Service. It concerns vegetation and revegetation of
your gravel extraction area as required by HB/065.
The area to be mined is located on the Nicolas Ranches property on
the Little Cimarron. This site was used by a sawmill operation
until recently. Consequently, most of it is covered by sawdust. A
bench above the river will be mined, then recovered with what
topsoil there is and sloped. The topsoil will be removed and
stockpiled. The slopes will be graded to at least 3:1. This area
is to be irrigated after reclamation. It should be seeded to a
mixture of Latar orchardgrass, Manchar smooth bromegrass, and
Climax timothy. It should be seeded at a rate of 2 lbs., 5 lbs.,
and 2 lbs./per acre, respectfully. If the seed is to be broadcast,
then the seeding rate should be doubled. Seeding should be done
around mid-October. Thistles could become a problem, so a thistle
control program should be carried out the first year after seeding.
Respectfully,
ester R.
