SUBSIDENCE HANDBOOK
•
RANGELAND
Introduction
Geo-Hydro O~nsulting Inc. mapped areas within the overall permit, desig-
nating:
1. Dbrrcalunercial forest lands,
2. Fangeland$/wildlife habitat recreation,
3. Hay production/pasture.
The forestlands and pasturelands identified within the overall permit area
are shall and represent no real differences in land use. The Colorado Mined
Land Reclamation Division (CMLd2D) definition of "rangeland" covers all these
types of land use. 'Ihe vast majority of the permit area lands are of this
rangeland (see Land Use Map 9-1) and are not sensitive to the effects of
subsidence.
Worst Case Damage
•
Even though effects are expected to be insignificant, the korst case effect
due to subs idence ~,ould be surface cracking within subsidence-induced tern
Sion zones. 'Ihe cracks ~.ould pose a danger to cattle or wildlife. 'It~e
cracks also ~.ould use a problan to water that sustains vegetation. Zfiis
effect will be discussed further within the surface and groundwater sections
of this handbook.
Pre-Damage Monitoring
Visual inspections of rangeland areas will be conducted twice a year. The
results of that visual inspection will be doc~unented (see attached monitoc~
ing form), pictures of subsidence features taken, and results submitted m
CMLI2D in the "Annual Subsidence and Hydrology Import" .
CWI will notify surface users six months prior to undermining. CWI will
also respond to the visual features found by the surface users through docu-
• mentation and photos of problems. The majority of the lands to be under-
mined in the first permit term is used by CWI, either through previous pur-
chase of property or BLM grazing permits.
