Post-Damage Monitoring
• The water levels in the 500,000 gallon and 100,000 gallon tanks will be morn
itored twice daily after leakage repair until determined by CWI management
that the fix to the pipeline is adequate, Then the monitoring will be as
de~cribed in the pre- monitoring section,
Mining Technique
The Pitkin Mesa Pipeline crosses BLM designated buffer zones. Limited min-
ing will be conducted in these buffer areas as designated by BIM in Lease
#C-37210. Only development entries will be mined in this area. See Map
2-5, In areas between 600 and 800 ft. of overburden, the pipeline will be
undermined using development only and ro pillar recovery. Calculations show
that this limited extraction will maintain the surface areas with ro subsi-
dence. See Pillar Stability l~port, Volinne 2, In areas of greater than 800
ft, of overburden, conventional room-and-pillar technique with pillar
extraction will be conducted. CWI does rot propose mining under the Pitkin
Mesa Pipeline in the initial permit term, q~rrent calculations show that
• the subsidence-induced strains will be above allowable pipeline strengths.
The calculations on these strains will be altered once additional site-
specific subsidence data is evaluated. At this time, CWI does propose con-
ventional roan-and- pillar technique in areas above 800 ft, of overburden.
Repair Procedure
1. Within 48 hours, locate pipeline leak by visual inspection or
underground detectors.
2, Excavate pipeline and evaluate cause for leakage.
3. Shut off pipeline flow,
4. Repair pipeline using appropriate couplings and pipe per manufar
turer's recanmendations.
5. Backfill repair area,
6, Revegetate disturbed area utilizing CMLRD approved permanent seed
mix tore .
