RECLAMATION PLAN EXHIBIT D
6.3. 4 - Final grading will be such that the topography is
appropriate to the reclaimed use of the property, i.e. , as
pasture. Slopes will be graded tom 3h to 1v from top to bottom.
The floor of the mine will be fairly level so it is consistent
with existing grades . The Reclamation Plan Map - Exhibit E-2 on the MAP
PLAT shows how we think the area will look when it is reclaimed.
Seeding will occur after October 15th and before April 15th
or after the first freeze and before the first frost. Seeds will
be drilled to insure maximum germination and most rapid cover
establishment. The seeding mix and species of grasses for the
area are shown on page 5 of this report. This is a seed mixture
from a local supplier that has proven successful for our purposes
in the past and it has been used successfully on the site previ-
ously. We will obtain the seed from a supplier in the area so
the mix is adapted to local conditions. v
If this seed mix is not used, we will notify the Division of
what mix will be planted and give our rationale- for changing the
mix in the annual report following the change. Only inaccessible
areas (if any) will be broadcast seeded. If the seed is broad-
cast, the seed rates will be doubled. No mulch will be used on
the area. No trees or shrubs will be planted on the site as non
exist now.
Reclamation will begin by replacing the salvaged topsoil on
the excavated area. We estimate the average depth of the re-
placed topsoil will be 10 inches. Once resoiling begins the
topsoil/growth medium will be removed from the stockpiles and
spread over the slopes. If fertilizer is usekit will be spread
on the seedbed and disced in during seed bed preparation and just
prior to planting. Once seeded the area will be monitored for
reclamation success. The seeded area may be fenced with a single
strand of electrical wire if cattle are placed on the surrounding
land. After the second growing season the site will be inspected
and an assessment of revegetation success will be done to deter-
mine if additional seeding will be necessary. If the analysis
shows additional work is needed it will be done that fall.
Weed control will be implemented prior to and during revege-
tation activities . This does not mean we will attempt to kill
all weeds, since some provide a natural ground cover and shade
for emerging grass. we will concentrate on controlling the
noxious weeds on the reclaimed area, following NRCS recommenda-
tions if a problem occurs.
10
