i'
X112.- BALLER-ROCK OUT• P COMPLEX 15-45% Slope VIIs-1 Dryland
, This complex consists of strongly sloping to steep soils on ridges and
"hogbacks". It is aboilt 50% Baller stony sandy loam and about 30% Rock
outcrop: This soil consists of shallow, well drained soils. These soils
are on uplands and are underlain by bedrock at a depth of 10-20 inches.
Mean annual precipitation ranges from 15-17 inches, mean annual air temp-
erature ranges from 47° to 49° F, and the frost-free season ranges from
135-150 days.
The Surface layer is dark grayish brown stony sandy loam about 6 inches
thick. The subsurface layer is dark grayish brown very stony sandy laom
about 5 inches thick. Below this is hard sandstone.
Permeability is moderately rapid, and the available water capacity is
low. Reaction is neutral. These soils are used For native grasses.
Included with this complex in mapping is about 20 percent Carnero soils
and areas of soils that are similar to the Baller soil but that has a clayey
subsoil. The Carnero series consists of moderately deep, well drained
soils. Permeability is moderately slow, and the available water capacity
is medium. Reaction is neutral,
Runoff is medium to rapid, and the hazard of water erosion is moderate to
severe. Deep hullies are in some areas,
This soil is suited to native grasses. Scattered stands of ponderosa pine
are in a few areas.
