: ' ..
-~-
_
The recommended seeding mix for reclamation on this site is:
Variety % in mix 1bs.PLS/Ac.*
big bluestem Kaw 25 5.5
sideoats grama Vaughn 25 4.5
switchgrass Grenville 20 1.B
yellow indiangrass Llano 15 3.0
western wheatgrass Arriba 15 4.8
mountain mahogany n/a 0.2
Total 19.8
* Note; PLS is Pure Live Seed
The seed should be uniformly broadcast over the area and should '
be raked or dragged to cover the seed. A long stemmed, weed ~
free, native grass hay should be used to mulch the area and to
protect the flatter seeded areas from erosion. Hors steeply
sloping areas should be covered with fiber matting to protect
from erosion until the seeding is established. Phosphorous
fertilizer should be applied at a rate of 4D lbs. per acre
active ingredient.
On very steep slopes that will be seeded, the soil surface
should be left rough to slow the runoff and trap moisture. It
may be necessary to cut diversions or channels across the slope
to catch the excess water. Spacing of the channels will depend
on the degree of slope and the intensity of rain.
Seeding should be done in late fall or early spring. Seeded
areas should be fenced to exclude livestock for a minimum of two
years following seeding.
If you have any questions please feel free to call (223-0960)
Sincerely,
Frank R.
