• Page 2
- Seedbed Preparation:
A seedbed should be prepared immediately follo'.aing tiie shaping
and grading of the slopes. If completion of these activities
does not coincide with the proper tine of seeding, it may be
necessary to mu'_ch o^ slant an annual cover crop to protect
the soil until the area can be seeded to permanent cover.
Topsoil should be applied after shaping and grading have been
completed. (existing topsoil should be stockpiled and used or
additional topsoil may have to be trucked in to reclaim ±he
area.) The site should t::en be tilled to a depth of six inches,
which pezmits the topsoil to bird with the existing soil. This
prevents air pockets, enco cases root penetration, and prevents
to?soil slippage on slopes.
Fertilizer should then be ap?lied immediately prior to seeding
and incorporated to a depth of 2 to 4 inches at rates of 50 lb~acre
of available nitrogen an•d 50 lb~acre of available phosphorus.
If proper equipment is used, fertilizer may be applied at the
time of seeaing. ?irm the seedbed by cultipacking or a. similar
operation, if needed.
• - Seeding:
Seeding should be done prior to anticipated periods of precipi-
tation (November 1 through ray jl~.
