Lang <br />Division Dvenor <br />NEWS RELEASE <br />Contact: Loretta Pineda or <br />Bill York-Feirn (303) 866-3567 <br />STATE APPROVES REVISED PERMIT APPLICATION FOR DOWE FLATS QIIARRY <br />The Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board today <br />conditionally approved the Dowe Flats Quarry, located 2 miles <br />east of Lyons in Boulder County. The permit for the limestone <br />quarry operated by Southwestern Portland Cement Company includes <br />approximately 1,900 acres. The reclamation bond requested by the <br />Board has been set at $3.3 million. The county process for land <br />use approval for this operation is underway. <br />The mining permit and reclamation plan have undergone an <br />extensive review by the Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) <br />for the past nine months. Several public meetings with the <br />operator, local citizens and the county have been conducted by <br />the DMG. <br />The Board ordered that construction or mining activity <br />cannot begin on the site until the following stipulations are <br />met: 1) The final Cultural Resource Management Plan is <br />received by the DMG and accepted by the State Historical <br />Preservation Office. 2) Results of the black-footed ferret <br />MORE <br />
