Limited-Results Archaeological Survey Form (Page 3 of 3)
addition, features associated with historic mining have been recorded along the river valley
and the lower portions of adjacent gulches.
26. Expected Results: It was expected that a small number ofprehistoric artifacts or historic
features associated with livestock grazing would be found in lower open
areas near water. Prehistoric or historic artifacts or features were not
anticipated on the less accessible ridgetops away from sources of water.
VI. STATEMENT OF OBJECTIVES
27. The objective of this survey was to locate and document any prehistoric or historic cultural
resources within the identified survey blocks. These resources were to be recorded, and if any
were considered significant and potentially eligible for the National Register, plans would have
been developed to avoid any adverse impacts to the resources.
VII. FIELD METHODS
28. Definitions: Site Prehistoric site =five or more prehistoric artifacts or fewer than five artifacts
with feature. Historic sites = 10 or more items.
IF Prehistoric = up to four items; historic = up to nine items.
29. Describe Survey Method;
All gently to moderately sloping areas within the survey blocks were surveyed by pedestrian transects
at 15- to 20-meter intervals. In aeeas of dense trees or brush, straight transects and regulaz intervals
were maintained to the extent feasible. Steep slopes (greafer than 30 percent grade) were not walked
systematically, but were visually scanned for indications of structural features (mines, roads, small
buildings) or potential rockshelters.
VIII. RESULTS
30. List IFs if applicable. Indicate IF Iocatious on fhe map completed for Part III.
A. SmithsoniauNumber: none Description:
B. Smithsonian Number: Description:
C. Using your professional knowledge of the region, why are there none or very limited
cultural remains in the project area? Is there subsurface potential?
Most of the project azea is too rugged or too far from reliable sources of water, Sediments are rocky
and poorly consolidated, and there is very little potential for undiscovered subsurface cultural
materials.
