permanent seed mix. Concentrated shrub seeding or planting areas will be exempted from this evaluation
since the intent is to keep herbaceous competition at a minimum. •
Weed and Pest Control. Pursuant to the Colorado 1996 Noxious Weed Law and additional 2003
regulations, SCC has prepared a noxious weed management plan. The plan was prepared in
consultation with Colorado State University Cooperative Extension Service and Routt County Weed
Control Department
The list of plants classified as noxious weeds are identified in the Colorado Noxious Weed Act, 33-
5.5-101 to 119, CRS 2003. The noxious weeds are categorized as "A", "B" or "C" plants. No "A"
listed species have been observed at the Seneca II Mine. SCC conducts annual monitoring to insure
that no "A" list plants go undetected. Several species from the "B" and "C" lists have been
identified within the Seneca II permit boundary. In addition, severe) invasive and highly competitive
species not listed by the State are found on the Seneca II Mine; these species will be managed as
deemed appropriate by SCC personnel. The following weed species have been identified at the
Seneca 11 Mine through vegetation studies and field observation.
Black henbane Hounds tongue
Bull thistle Kochia •
Canada thistle Leafy Spurge
Common cockleburs Perennial pepperweed
Common mullein Russian olive
Curly cup gum weed Russian thisde
Curly dock Scotch thistle
Dalmatian toadflax Whitetop, Hoary cress
Downy brome, cheatgrass Yellow toadflax
Field bindweed
Reclaimed areas or mine related disturbances such and roadsides and facilities will be monitored for
noxious weed infestations. If noxious week infestations are observed, then the SCC reclamation
staff will implement the appropriate control strategy. If chemical control is required, application of
herbicides will tre carried out by either a private commercial herbicide applicator or SCC reclamation
staff. All applicators, including the Seneca II Mine reclamation personnel charged with herbicide application,
will be propedy licensed and/or certified to apply restricted or general use herbicides as per Colorado statute
and certification and licensing procedures administered through the Division of Plant Industry, Colorado
Department of Agricuhure.
•
Noxious weed species will be controlled as follows according to the label instructions of each herbicide.
TR37 13-24 Revised 04/05
