ft, then along another fenceline to the northwest for about
500 ft, and finally going due west some 800 ft to the well
pad. The area of the well pad and access west of the
fenceline is heavily grazed, with good visibility,
averaging between 30 and 50$. East of the fenceline there
is thick ground cover, with visibility reduced to between 0
and 10~. Vegetation consists mainly of grasses and
sagebrush. A total of about 3.9 acres were inventoried at
this location. No cultural resources were found.
Well Pad #3 is located in SW1/4NE1/4NE1/4NE1/4 of Section
18, T.5N.,R.86W. It is in Twentymile Park, on the unnamed
tributary to Fish Creek (which is locally referred to as
Cow Camp Creek), just upstream from a stock pond. The
access route goes through the N1/2NW1/4NE1/4 and
NW1/4NE1/4NE1/4 of Section 18. It is about 2,000 ft long,
extending from an existing two-track trail at a gate on the
fenceline along the north side of Section 18, downhill
southeast under a powerline. The area of the well pad had
fair visibility due to livestock grazing, averaging between
10 and 30$. The access route up the hillside to the
northwest had poor visibility, averaging between 0 and 20~.
Ground cover was dominated by grasses, wildflowers, and
sagebrush. A total of about 4.8 acres were inventoried at
this location. Two isolated finds were encountered and
recorded.
6.0 RESULTS
Two cultural resources were located and recorded during
this project, both on the access for Well Pad #3. One is a
prehistoric artifact and one is a historic artifact.
T.F. #1, the prehistoric artifact, is located in
NE1/4NW1/4NW1/4NE1/4 of Section 18, T.5N.,R.86W. It was
found on the top of the ridge, in a cow trail, south of the
fenceline, just below the powerline, along the access route
to well Pad #3. The artifact is a fragment of ground
stone. It is about three by five inches in size, about one
inch thick, of brown sandstone, smooth on one side. As a
single artifact, it is not considered to be eligible for
the NRHP.
I.F. #2, the historic artifact, is located in the
NW1/4NW1/4NW1/4NE1/4 of Section 18, T.5N,R.86W. It was
found on top of the ridge, near the gate, just south of the
fence marking the north section line, along the access
route to Well Pad #3. The artifact is a large piece of a
glazed earthenware crock. As a single artifact, it is not
considered to be eligible for the NRHP.
