• Site Number 5RT164: The Leonard Yoast Site
Temporary Number Y-T-2
Site Type Core reduction/Limited activity
Cultural/Temporal Aboriginal/unknown
Affiliation
Nearest SVater Sage Creek
Environmental Setting The site is located at an elevation of 2,248
meters on the end of a ridge with a southeast
aspect. Vegetation on the site is a mixed
sage/scrub community consisting of big sage,
mountain mahogany, scrub oak, and
snowberry
Site Size 13 in x 10 m .
Site Description This site is a small, limited activity site
adjacent to the Yoast house. The site is on a
small knoll just above a bench mark (7,367
ft), marked on the USGS quadrangle.
• Recovered material indicates secondary and
tertiary core reduction were the activities
that took place. Ten u+hite chert-to-
chalcedony flakes were observed and
photographed. All the debitage exhibits
platform preparation techniques indicative of
core reduction rather than tool reduction.
The knoll allows a good view up both Sage
Creek and the drainage where 5RT163 is
located. Tlie knoll top appears to be an
erosional rather than depositional situation.
Site Significance This sparse scatter lacks features or formal
tools, and is impaired by erosion. Additional
data recovery would add little knowledge to
the prehistory of the area. The site is
considered insignificant and ineligible to the
NRHP.
Project Impact
The site is within the permit boundaries but
outside the direct impact zone.
;17anagement Recommendations

No further work.
21
