2.04.3(3)(a)
(a) The type and description of mining method used.
The original method of mining was hand loading with pick and shovel
and animal haulage. As the mine developed, conventional mining with
cutting machines and loaders replaced the pick and shovel. At the
present, continuous miners are being utilized with a room and pillar
mining method.
(b) The coal seams or other mineral strata mined.
The present seam being mined by the Red Canyon #1 Mine is the "E"
seam.- There has been exploration in the "D" seam. Adjacent mines
east of the permit area have mined in the "D" seam. Early mining
activity did include mining of the "E" and "D" seams in areas adjacent
to the permit area. This activity is shown on the Previously Affected
Land Map, 2.04.3(3)-1.
(c) The extent of coal or other mineral removed.
•
The extent of coal removed is shown on the Mine Plan Map, 2.05.3(1)-1,
and the Previously Affected Land Map, 2.04.3(3)-1.
(d) The approximate dates of past mining.
The approximate date is that mining has been continuous since 1916.
(e) The uses of the land preceding mining.
The land use preceding mining was a wildlife habitat. See Section
2.04.3(2)(b)(i)of this application for an elaboration of this statement.
(f) The location and extent of acreage distrubed by previous surface
coal mining and reclamation operations. Refer to the Previously
Affected Land Map, 2.04.3(3)-1.
•
38
