2.04.3(2)(b)(ii) <br />(ii) Productivity of the proposed permit area before mining, expressed <br />as average yield of food, fiber, forage, or wood products. <br />There was no activity within the permit area prior to mining regarding <br />farming, pastureland or forestry. As identifed on the Land Use Map, <br />2.04.3(2)(a)-1, there are approximately 914 acres of pasture or <br />grazing land and approximately 283 acres of apple orchards. <br />Soil Conservation Service productivity information for the area <br />of the Red Canyon #1 eiine and proposed ~2 Mine is as follows: <br />Apple Orchards 800 - 900 bushels per acre <br />Pasture with alfalfa 3 tons per acre <br />Pasture without alfalfa: 2 tons per acre <br />(3) A statement whether the proposed permit area has been previously <br />mined, and, if so, the following information: <br />The proposed permit area has been previously mined. Mining started <br />• in the area around 1916. Past underground mining can be seen on <br />the Mine Plan D'.ap, 2.05.3(1)=1. Also, shown on the Previously <br />Affected Land flap, 2.04.3(3)-1, are past strip mine operations. <br />The Red Canyon tl Mine started out on U.S. Government Lease # Denver <br />036906. There have been eight or more excavations for portals since <br />the mine began. The worked-out areas are indicated on the Mine Plan <br />Map, 2.05.3(1)-1. In general the workings went chronologically from <br />the west to the east then north at low annual production rates. <br />The Previously Affected Land Map, 2.04.3(3)-1, indicates which land <br />has been previously affected for residential and mining uses. In <br />the past; no topsoil has been segregated and little thought given <br />for future reclamation.
