Gunnison Mine
File No. C-007-80
Dear Ms. Beville:
The Division has completed its review of your April 13, 1984 technical
revision. The revision proposes to stockpile colluvial material at the
• reclaimed Bear No. 1 site. The material will be excavated from the hillside
during construction of the silo.
Jim Pendleton of our staff expressed his geotechnical concerns to Craig Hansen
and Rocky Bowman during our mine site visit of April 20, 1984. I relayed my
remaining concerns to you by phone on April 24, 1984. The following is a
summary of our concerns and agreements.
1) Mr. Pendleton indicated that W.E.C.C. should submit designs that
indicate the rock face below the access road will be stable after
excavation of the fill.
2) Any designs on the drainage modification south of the coal silo should
be submitted.
3) The current status of the NPDES permit for the new pond should be
indicated.
4) W.E.C.C. should commit to a dewatering procedure (pumping) that could be
used as a backup when the NPDES permit is issued.
5) We agreed that the proposed drainage system at Bear No. 1 will not
interfere with the original Bear Mine drainage control system.
6) W.E.C.C. is encouraged to take operation responsibility for the area
• north of the diversion at Bear No. 1. In any case, the exact permit
boundary of W.E.C.C. needs to be indicated on a map and clearly marked
in the field.
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver,,Colorado 80203 Tel.
