03i10i1994 08 18 F~ US EPA - R8 WTR MGT DIU TO
•
March i, 1994
Division Of Minerals And Geology
Mined Land Reclamation Board
Mr. James Dilly
1313 Sherman St. Room 215
Denver, Co 80203
Dear Mr. Dilly:
98328106 P.05
We are writing in regard to the United Companies of Mesa
County Inc. As residential land owners directly across the
Uncompahgre River from the proposed gravel pit, concrete and
hot mix plant we are very disturbed. Some of our Concerns
are as follows:
1. PROPERTY DEVALUATION: Due to the noise, odor, dust,
emissions and heavy truck traffic.
2. HEALTH HAZARDS: Same as above.
3. EFFECTS ON WILDLIFE: Deer, elk, waterfowl and the
bald eagles which nest across the river will be
adversely affected.
4. QUESTIONABLE RECLAMATION: There is not enough top soil
to recover the existing site. The water rights are also
inadequate. Realistically we will wind up looking at a
37-acre weed pit.
We are already forced to put up with a gravel pit just a
mile or two south of this proposed site. It is an eye-sore
with the old rusted heavy equipment close to the highway.
By admission of United Companies, the entire valley has high
grade aggregate. It would make sense to locate such a
business in the industrial area; certainly not a residential
area along the beautiful Uncompahgre River.
We respectfully request that no permits be issued to United
Companies or any other business of like nature.
Our most sincere thank you,
Joe and Rylee Fernandez
POS 3374 (21897 Vncompahgre Rd.)
Montrose, Co 81402
-..:

C/C: State Rep.
