-33-
• This is some of the erosion that was occurring - this is an undercutting
of the area of the haul road. This, for example, this type of area is very
delicate, and it would certainly have to be improved, somehow. It's going to
be used fora haul road. This 1s part of the (INAUDIBLE), this leads
downstream into to the wet lands of the Rito Seco and San Luis is downstream
about three miles. The water from the, that I showed you there, from that
snow melt came down the Rito Seco - the Rito Seco comes along around here, it
crosses Qolorado Highway 159. which is a -- a bridge was removed from here by
the State and is the subject of the controversy, because of the Flood problems
that it is causing. And then runs down this way. This area right here is the
Montez Ditch which runs parallel to the Rito Se co in San Luis. What happened
is water came down through this ditch, it overflowed and flooded my mother's
front yard as it turns out. So I had a real vested interested in this one.
Later on the water ran down through Church Place. There is an underground
culvert system, because the irrigation system on the Montez Ditch is used for
gardens in the town of San Luis. The water then ran over here ten the Catholic
• Church, and it flooded part of the Church yard, and I am a Cathollic. So I
didn't like that either. The water then ran down this -- the ditch that runs
along here and is now headed towards Main Street. The water then - here's the
church yard - the water ran down the street and is headed towards Main
Street. There is a problem with the drainage system of San Luis. We, of
course, have a problem with cyanide containing waters coming into town but, on
top of that, there is a problem with the drainage system of the town of San
Luis. Do I have a question from my attorney?
MR. N. CDHEN: Yeah. I was just getting ~ question. Do ycru have a
report concerning the drainage of the town of San Luis?
MR. JAQUEZ: Yes Sir, I do. This is the Master Drainage Study that was
done on the town of San Luis and I would like to present it for the record.
This is the (INAUDIBLE) which will show up in one of the maps that is in the
packet and will be in an upcoming slide of the Battle Mountain San Luis
Project site is about here and the water that came into town went along here.
