-32-
• it, personally. That's one of niy major concerns is having that Rita Se co
dewatered to that point and future problems that could arise. That's it.
Thank you.
MR. N. COHEN: Any questions?
MR. JOUFLAS: Thank's very much Joe.
MR. N. COHEN: Next is Charlie Jaquez. He's got a little bit of a slide
show.
MR. JOUFLAS: The same one?
MR. N. COHEN: No. These slides are -- what did you call it? Impounded.
MR. JAQUEZ: My name is Charlie Jaquez and I'm a member of the Committee
• For Environmental Soundness. This is the town of San Luis which is three
miles downstream in the drainage of the Rita Seco where the cyanide heap leach
that we are opposed to is located. On February 25th, three days after we met
with the ladies and gentlemen of the MLRD, we had an unusually warm day. And,
we had quite a b1t of snow melt. This is what appears to be a ditch with a
broken bank is really one of the roads of the Rito Seco which would be the
haul road. And, the amount of erosion that was occurring within just a few
hours was really significant. This occurred within just a few hours. This
part of this road which again is also part of that haul road was about 12
inches deep and I would know because I wasn't really paying that much
attention and I hit it with my car. And the material here is running
downstream, which normally this would be in the direction of the Rita Seco.
Here, again, this is the water running here. It's a good deal of water. And
one of the things that ended up happening is that this water ended up, later
on that evening, ended up in the town of San Luis.
