• Historical State Agricultural Holdings
As mining operations progress across our coal leases, Trapper affects tformer state agricultural
leases. Since 1976, Trapper has permitted the agricultural lessee to continue farming practices
but with the stipulation that Trapper withdraw acres from aop production when mining advance
dictates. Areas outside mining pres[rip operations are either left in historical crop rest-rotation
(small grain) or converted to perennial hayaop if these areas have tht; potential to contribute
significant amounts of sediment into existing sediment control ponds. As previous cropland areas
are mined and reclaimed, Trapper converts all small grain production fields to permanent vegeta-
tion with the approved haycrop mix in order to reduce erosion potential and manage these areas
until they revert to historical use after bond release. In the spring of 1992, Trapper interseeded
approximately 181 aces of existing small grain cropland to perennial haycrop.
1.2.6 Previously Revegetated Acres
The locations and acres for all previously revegetated areas, seeded to perennial species, are pre-
sented in map(s) 1.0. To date, Trapper has revegetated approximately 1,806 acres within the
boundaries of active mining and revegetated an additional 342 aces within the permit boundary
but outride topsoil stripping limits.
Prior to 1982, Trapper had initially seeded all reclaim units to a winter wh~cat cover aop except for
approximately 15 aces of test plow. The volunteer nature of the winker wheat caused severe
competition with perennial seeding efforts during 1981 and 1982. A two-;year program of seeding
alternate wheat strips to perennials began in 1983 and ended in 1984. This program affected
• approximatety 275 aces. Dtrea seeding of perennial species only began in 1982 on topsoiled
areas in Ashmore, Derringer and Enfield pits. This explains several 1984 map units (Map 1.0) for
Ashmore, Colt and Derringer pits.
Not shown on Map(s) 1.0 in this annual report are the areas seeded to temporary perennial mates
along roadways, dams and associated disturbances such as topsoil piles which will require final
reclamation prior to the end of the project (life of mine).
Icona.a~9zt~rTtl
•
