(13) cont.
LOPA (Arthur 1977) conducted a survey of unleased
federal coal tracts adjacent to the Colo:ayo mine site.
The survey covered several sections which border t}ie
Colowyo Fede-~al lease, however, none of the mine plan
area caas surveyed.
(14) It appears that the report provided by the applicant
is an edited version of Lischka's report. If the reuort
in the mine plan is not the original many deficiencies
- may be corrected by submitting the original. Provide
a copy of the original reports submitted by Lischka and
Carpenter and any others that apply e.g., LOPA.
Response
The report submitted by Colowyo is a copy of the
original report received by Colowyo. The original
site forms were never sent to Colowyo 'which may account
for the appearance that the report is incomplete. If
there are any additional sections to the original report
we are not aware that they exist.
(15) Determine the presence/absence of sensitive sites e.g.
rock art, rock shelters and historic and prehistoric
structures in areas adjacent to the mine plan area and
whether the blasting associated with mine activities
may constitute an adverse impact to these sites. This
• determination may be made by a literature search and/or
a reconnaissance survey.
Response
Colowyo has contracted with Western Cultural
Resource Management, Inc. to conduct a li terature
search and/or a reconnaissance survey of potential
rock art or rock shelte_ sites adjacent t o the mine
plan area.
The report from !9CRM is enclosed.
One site (SMF465) was located in the Colowyo buffer
zone during the [9CRM survey. The minimum distance between
the site and the nearest blasting area in Colowyo's east
pit is 3000 feet. This distance will inc rease as the mine
progresses to the south.
•
