Application to provide the <br />historical information on the mine plan area. <br />Response <br />"A Short History of Northwestern Colorado" by <br />Frederic J. Athearn is enclosed. <br />(11) Breternitz's ceramic analysis should be provided to <br />the regulatory authority. <br />Response <br />Response is included in the letter from Dr. Lischka. <br />(12) All paleontological resources should have their signifi- <br />cance determined, e.g. should data be recovered prior <br />to the mining activities. <br />Response <br />The Bureau of Land t4anagement is in the process <br />of classifying paleontological resources in northwest <br />Colorado. A copy of Colowyo's request to the BLM <br />and BLM's response is attached. <br />(13) Although not provided in the mine plan, it is known <br />that the Laboratory of Public Archeology (LOPA) surve;~ed <br />a portion of the mine plan area and conducted a testing <br />and mitigation program. This report should be provided <br />to OStd in its entirity. It is also known that LJPA <br />conducted a survey on a coal tract on t•;ilson Creek in T3 <br />and 4N. Did this survey cover part of the mine plan <br />area? If it did the report must be provided. <br />Pesponse <br />The Laboratory of Public Archeology did not <br />survey any portion of the mine plan area. LGPA did, <br />however, conduct additional reconnaissance work on <br />Section I of the Colowyo rail spur including the unit <br />train loading facility rail loop in 1978 prior to <br />railroad construction. The location of the reconnaiss- <br />ance route varied from the several alternative railroad <br />routes examined by Lischka in 1975. The Gossard loadout <br />which is contained in the Colowyo permit boundary, as shown <br />• cn Map 16, was a part of the reconnaissance survey <br />done by LOPA. No new sites were found within the p=_rmit <br />boundary. <br />
