•
4.03 ROADS
4.03.1 Haul Roads
Because the Bear No. 3 Portals will be an underground operation, no
major hau~ road construction will be necessary. Initially, coal will be
shipped by truck from a truck loadout bin shown on the Mine Facilities
Map (Map 10). Highway type trucks will be used to haul the coal. From
a practical standpoint, given the size of the operation, any highway
trucks used to haul coal will utilize the same road used by mine
employees and other personnel to gain access to the operation.
The haul road (and main access road to the operation) will be utilized
and maintained to control or minimize erosion, siltation, air and water
pollution, and damage to private or public property. The haul road (and
main access road) for the Bear No. 3 Porals is shown on the Mine
Facilities Map (Map 10). This road runs from State Highway 133 into a
• loadout bin shown on the Mine Facilities Map (Map 10).
A road from State Highway 133 to the planned facility location has been
in existence for many years. The bridge across the north fork of the
Gunnison River was built in 1934, and has been in use since that time.
Recently, this bridoe was upgraded to carry semi-truck traffic with
gross payloads of up to 80,000 pounds; therefore, the bridge will be
adequate to carry the volume of traffic and the weight and speed of
vehicles to frequent the mining operation. The road within the facility
site is currently existing; however, this road will be upgraded and
improved to provide access for mine employees and other traffic. This
road is located on stable terrain and will be maintained according to
the requirements of 4.03.1(4).
The profile for this main road is shown on the Road Design (Map 11).
The grade and pitch requirements specified in Section 4.03.1(3), Design
• and Construction, will be met for this main road.
4.03-1
