4.15.10(1)
Topsoil found within the planned facilities area was removed for
redistribution upon the graded area. Exhibit 23 contains the Bear
No. 3 Mine topsoil plan. Map 23-1 in Exhibit 23 shows the
following four classifications of areas to be revegetated:
Classification Acres
1. Area To Be Re-Topsoiled 4.8
2. Topsoil Stockpile 0.2
3. Area Not Topsoiled, But Will 4.0
Be Scarified and Seeded
4. Area to Be Left in Place 0.8
at Reclamation
TOTAL AREA DISTURBED 9.6
An estimated 3600 cubic yards of topsoil was originally salvaged.
During August 1993 the sediment pond at the Bear No. 3 Mine was
enlarged. Approximately 0.2 acres was disturbed. The topsoil
salvaged from this area was placed on the topsoil pile shown on the
Mine Facilities Map (Map 10). Approximately 430 cubic yards of
topsoil was salvaged which equates to an average depth of 15
inches. Therefore, a total of 4030 cubic yards of topsoil is
available (3600 + 430).
To cover the 4.8 ayes with 6-inches of topsoil, 3872 cubic yards
are required. Therefore, there is an excess of 158 (4030-3872)
cubic yards of topsoil.
4.15-4 Rev. 11-09-93
