I additional disturbances are contemplated; however, should the need arise to disturb
• additional areas, site clearing and topsoil salvage would be performed during the periods
indicated in Figure 17-1.
Facility demolition will occur first. These activities would probably occur in early
auimner to take advantage of favorable ground condi tiona anfl minimise in~acta to soil
resources. These activities will include removal of the bu3ldinga, coal conveyors and
equipment, tipple and railroad track. To the degree pos Bible, materials an8 equipment
will be salvaged for use at another facility oz as scrap. It is expected that the
facility demolition can be completed in four weeks.
Backf illing and grading will be the second activity <onducted. Di aturbance areas will be
backf illefl and graded Co blend into the surrounding topography, while maintaining positive
drainage. Moat earthmoving activities will involve backf illing and gradiag Che railroad
spur. Coal fines in the loadovt pile and <oal storage area will be vaefl as backf ill
material. HGTI anticipates that the backf illing and grading can be completed is four
weeks to six weeks (see Table 17-1).
Topsoil material redistribution and suitability determinations ITab 19) will follow
backfill and grading activities. It is expected that the topsoil materiel zeflistzibvti on
• activities can be completed in four weeks. Tillage and seedbed preparation (when
necessary), cover cropping and reclamation seeding will be completed during the first
favorable growing season after Lopsoil redistribution, weather permitting Isee Tab 20).
It is expected that tillage and seedbefl preparation can be completed in one to two weeks
and the reclamation seeding activities can be completed in one week. It is anticipated
that the seeding a<tivi ti ea will be scheduled for the fall season to take advantage of
optimal soil moisture conditions.
Fence construc[i on (it necessary) will occur after the seeding activities have been
completed. Since HGTI is uncertain if any new fences will need to be constructed as part
of final reclamation, fence construction is not shown on Figure 17-1.
Maintenance and management activities are conducted throughout [he year, weather and
snowpack conditions permi[tinc. The timing of these activities is dependent upon the
specific activity. Fence maintenance and trespass livestock removal is generally
conducted from mid-Spring through the Fall. Interseeding or reseeding is conducted in Che
next favorable planting season following recognition for the need to conduct these
activities. Erosion monitoring is conducted in accordance with the Stormwater Management
Plan lafter snowmelt and heavy rains), with any required repairs carried out from late
• spring through fall. The operations outlined above will be completed in winter months as
well when mild weather persists. Under normal conditions, the schedules, as presented,
are followed.
3 Revised 3/20/03
