174
i
Site: 5MF323 (Fig. 4).
site type: Open architectural,
Location: SE!;SW!;, Sec. 26, Ton, R912; UTM Zone 13, E280,800m., N4,462,355m.
Description: 5MF323 consists of six log structures located on both sides of
an unnamed seasonal drainage that flows into Deer Creek. The site elevation
is 7520 ft. (2,292 m.). The nearest water is the seasonal drainage, which is
about 3 m, away. Vegetation in the site area consists of serviceberry, Gam-
tile's oak, sagebrush, fern, aspen, and grasses.
A steep, rugged slope rises on the northwest side of the site, while on
the southeast side of the drainage the slope is less rugged. As of July,

1975, the southeast slope was cultivated in pasture grass.
Six features were recorded. One structure was completely collapsed,
the other five were in various states of decay. Cultural material observed
includes a junked automobile, discarded farm machinery, glass and ceramic fra-
gments, assorted hardware, and trash. The site has been heavily disturbed
by grazing cattle, but otherwise appears undisturbed.
Diagnostic Artifacts: NOne.
evaluation: 5FiF323 should be given further consideration by a trained Colorado
historian. Also, the architectural remains at the site should be evaluated
by the proper authority. Consequently, we can offer no recommendation for the
future treatment of 5MF323.
u
