Hydrologic Balance
The Camenish Borrow site will be dewatered prior to excavation of sand and
gravel. Once all material has been excavated the perimeter of the excavation will be
sealed with a compacted liner thereby eliminating any further depletions to the
surrounding alluvial aquifer. Impacts to the existing hydrologic balance will be
minimized by the limited duration of the dewatering operation and by the fact that the
excavation will be sealed immediately after all borrow material has been excavated. In
addition, there aze no known ground water wells within 600 feet of the proposed
excavation site. Finally, an adjacent dry sand and gravel mining operation located
immediately west of the site has been actively dewatering the alluvium in this azea for
several years.
Surface Water Management
All borrow areas will drain internally, Uncontrolled releases of surface water and
sediment from the borrow site will not occur. Stormwater collected in the open pit will be
managed in accordance with Colorado/NPDES discharge permit requirements. Sediment
generated from localized storm water runoff and surface drainage will be contained on
site in azeas created by the proposed mining operation.
Disturbance Areas
Disturbance areas associated with the Box Elder Creek Sand Pit aze estimated as
follows:
Disturbance Area Acres
Stage 1. 25
Temporary Overburden and Topsoil Stockpiles
Total Project Disturbance (Mining) 25
Total Permit Area
30
The maximum azea that will be disturbed at any point during the operation will be
approximately 30 acres,
