EXHIBIT C -MINING PLAN
General
The proposed excavation activities aze anticipated to disturb approximately 30
acres of land located '/< mile north of Weld County Road 20 '/z and '/< mile west of
Interstate 25 in unincorporated Weld County.
The material to be excavated consists of alluvial sand and gravel overlain by
topsoil and overburden. The topsoil and overburden layer will range from 2 to 5 feet in
thickness, while the sand and gravel deposit is IS feet thick. The deposit is underlain by
shale. The depth of excavation will be on the order of 20 feet.
Groundwater is approximately 6 feet below natural ground level. The deposit is
therefore classified as an alluvial deposit. The sand and gravel deposit is cataloged in the
report Sand, Gravel and Quarry Resources, Colorado Front Range Counties (Colorado
Geologic Survey, 1974).
Mining Method
The Camenish Borrow site will be dry mined. A dewatering ditch will be
excavated to bedrock around the perimeter of azea to be excavated and groundwater
pumped from the borrow site. Groundwater recovered in the dewatering ditch will be
discharged in accordance with Colorado/NPDES dischazge permit regulations.
Topsoil and overburden will be placed in temporary stockpiles within the mining
area limits. Topsoil and overburden will be salvaged and stockpiled sepazately.
The deposit will be mined using a backhoe and front-end loaders. Excavated
material will be loaded directly into haul trucks and transported to the I-25 job site.
Access to and from the site will be via an existing farm road.
Mining Schedule
The I-25 project calls for 500,000 cubic yards of fill material. Flatiron will
excavate and haul approximately 50,000 cubic yazds of fill per month beginning
November 2006 and ending the following November.
