- 2 -
. ~ ,,.
•^ area. (See excavation map). Paddle wheel scrapers are used for
this stage of mining. Following the removal of topsoil and overburden
materials (ranging from two to three feet in thickness) a backhoe will
be used to excavate a dewatering trench around three sides of the phase
under mining. While the dewatering trench is being excavated, scrapers
will remove the remaining overburden and use it in the reclamation of
tract "A". The excavated pit run is loaded into end dump trucks and
hauled to a portable crusher. (See site map for location). A portion
of the excavated pit run is crushed for asphalt plant mix, (approximately
50$). The remained is processed through a portable wash plant for
premix concrete production.
Water used for the proposed mining operation will come from wells
with industrial uses. We11 12261F has a tested capacity of 150 GPM.
You should also refer to case No. W-3477 State of Colorado Water Court•
Well Number 14515 has an industrial consumption use of 500 GPM. Flat-
iron is an active member in the augmentation program organized by GASP.
The excavation plan map found in the permit application shows the
direction in which the mining plan will travel for each separate phase
of the mining plan. The mineable gravel in this pit averages 15 feet
in thickness or approximately 35,000 tons per acre. Annual surface
disturbances will be about fifty acres for the active mining operation.
All tracts "B" through "E" will be mined in the manner described
above.
The overall goal of the reclamation plan for this project will be
twofold. First, Flatiron hopes to reclaim as much industrial land as
possible along the western boundary of the permit area. Those lands
that cannot be used for industrial development will be reclaimed as
prairie grass lands. The finished topography will be a series of
surface depressions, The topsoil and overburden that was placed at
the perimeter will be backfilled to create slopes not to exceed a ratio
of 3:1. All steep bank areas will be backfilled to a minimum slope
ratio of 3:1. This activity will take place at the end of each given
phase of mining. This will be carried out for the perimeter of tract
"A" after mining of tract "B" begins.
After backfilling and topsoiling the following seed mix will be
applied.
Seed Mix
Common Name
Lincoln Smooth Brome
Intermediate Wheat Grass
Nordan Crested Wheat
Slender Wheat Grass
Russian Wild Rye
PLS/Acre Rate Lb.
12.5
10
10
10
7.5
Total PLS/acre - seeding 50
