Baratta <br />Civil Engineer <br />Mined Land Reclamation <br />1313 Sherman Street <br />Denver, Co. 80203 <br />Re: Greeley West Pit Application #77-81 <br />Dear Ms. Baratta: <br />The following information is provided in order to assist the <br />M.L.R.B. staff in their review of the Greeley West pit application <br />The permit area for the Greeley West pit is located in part of <br />the East Half of the Northwest Quarter, the Southwest Quarter of the <br />Nortwest Quarter, all that part of the North Half of the Southwest <br />Quarter lying North of the C & S R.R., the North Half of the North- <br /> <br />i <br />w <br />J <br />N <br />~~ <br />,~ <br />i~ <br />west Quarter of the Southeast Quarter, the Southwest Quarter of the y <br />Northeast Quarter and the South Half of the Northwest Quarter of the <br />Northeast Quarter. All within Section Thirty-Six (36),~ Township <br />Six (6) North, Range Sixty-Six (66) West of the 6th P.M. located <br />in the County of Boulder, State of Colorado. The permit area totals <br />approximately 200 acres. There are 6 tracts to be mined totalling <br />142 acres. The portable plant, stockpile site, garage and premix <br />batch plant occupy approximately 33 acres. The remaining acreage will <br />be unaffected. Flatiron Paving Company began mining area "A" of this <br />site in 1971 (see site map). Area "A" was 35 acres in size in 1971. <br />Today approximately 8 acres remain to be excavated. Those areas that <br />were mined between (7-1-73) and (7-1-76) are under water. <br />The mining of the Greeley West tracts will take place as follows: <br />As mentioned above, there are 6 tracts totalling 142 acres to be <br />mined at this site. Total time for this operation is expected to take <br />15 years. (See the mining and reclamation schedule page B-8 of the <br />Greeley West permit application). All topsoil and overburden materials <br />were removed from the surface of area "A" prior to (7-1-73). Mining <br />of the remaining acreage in area "A" will take approximately one year. <br />Areas "B" through "E" will follow according to the above mentioned <br />schedule. The mining of area "B" will begin with the removal of topsoil <br />and overburden materials. The total thickness of the topsoil and <br />overburden materials averages 2 to 3 feet. All topsoil and overburden <br />will be from a perimeter area about 100 feet in width. The topsoil <br />and overburden material will be placed to the outside of the perimeter <br />
