-8-
MR. HOLDER: Yes. These people acted in Good faith and everythino was
postmarked proper. The object of the rule, I'm quite sure, is to see to it
that no one person has an advantaue over another in getting material
together. They didn't have the letters either after the 5th.
MR. ENTZ: And, I think there is some real concerns addressed by these
letters also that need to come to light. And, I think it benefits Battle
Mountain as well as the opponents.
MR. HOLDER: Yeah. There may be some lack of communication between the
mine operator and the public that could be cleared up.
MR. E MZ: It is a large project, it's extremely close to a town and
extremely close to water supplies for the area. So, I think their concerns
are very relevant.
MR. HOLDER: I do, too.
MR. HOLDER: There are a few mentioned that are out of our ju^isdiction.
Some of the noise and increased traffic and so on is a local conce^n.
MR. DANIEL SON: Are'we waiting for these documents or are we-•-?
MR. HOLDER: No.
MS. WINTER: I would just like to tell you, though, that as somebody who
has been on the Board for eight years, I have not noticed any percceptible
difference between a formal public hearing and the usual public meetings which
we always conduct, so that even if you didn't have a formal public hearing you
would still be able to say everythino that you would have said. Ii:'s not a
measurable difference in what you would be able to present.
MR. O'CONNOR: I have not heard a second to Davis's motion, so I will do
so.
