Pit 4: to west-certtca! portion of the arm, adjacent to the creek; approximately t 8
feet to water level in trench; 12 inches of A horizon soil, then a continuous layer
of silty clay to a depth of 10 feet from surface; smaller graveUcobbie size
consisterwy than other pits, with less material 8 inches and larger, sand appeared
to have some contamination from clay material.
a Pit 5: In northern tip of area, on a besrch approximately l l feet lower than the
area where the other four pits were dug; approximately 10 feet to water Level in
trench; 23 inches of A horizon soil, then 24 inches of clay subsoil; no gravel
preseat in the trench, only a lawex level of fine grained material.
s
The gravedcobble zor~ contains approximately 18 acres, and is defined on the wed and
s sides by Ilardscrabble Creek that cuts diagonally across the property, and oa the
east and south sides by property lines. Overall, the material excavated from the trenches
appears to be similarin size and consisteury to other exposed deposits in the area,
including material from the active gravel pit nm by Pioneer Sand Company, Inc. located
approximately one-h8tf mile to tla; northeast. There is between 7 and 10 feet of non-
gravelmaterial above the graveUcobble zoo that would have to be removed prior to
mining, but once this was done, there should be adequate material for a prudent mining
company to justify a small operation oa the deposit From the data that I have, I'm not
able to dctern>wne the tots[ thickness of the gravel/oobble zone, but the deepest trench (t
23 feet) did not dig out of the material. Thw'e is ground water evident in the alluvial zone,
but proper Pit sequencing and P~P~g should control this doting the mining process.
Please contact me if you have aay questions or rximmenis ort this letter I can be reached
by phone ai (719} 2T5-9353.
incerely,
I,.
