Letter to Mined Land Reclamation re Eagle-Gypsum Mine page 2 18 May 1984
Overburden samples of material from vicinity of the drain gully were furnished
to the BLM for their analysis. I an still of the opinion that little if any
topsoil exists on the site of our disturbance areas. However, all topsoil
encountered in areas of disturbance will be stockpiled for future reclamation
work. Please note on our original Exhibit Two-Potential Mining Plan, a pro-
posed waste stockpile area. The upper level of this area will be used for the
segregation and stockpiling of any topsoil encountered. Stabilization will be
by seeding with Crested Wheatgrass at an application rate of 15 PLS/Acre, hand-
broadcast and raked into the soil bed. Further, in accordance with BLM deter-
mination, re-vegetation seed mix and seeding rates for reclamation are as
follows:
Description of Species Seed Rate
1. Crested Wheatgrass 4 PLS/Acre
2. Indian Ricegrass 6 PLS/Acre
3. Western Wheatgrass 12 PLS/Acre
4. Yellow Sweet Clover 2 PLS/Acre
5. Fourwing Saltbush 2 PLS/Acre
This seeding rate takes into consideration hand broadcasting and is double
normal seeding rates. All seed will be handbroadcast in ]ate fall or early
spring and will be raked into the soil bed following application.
Concerning slope stabilization, we intend to develop small benches or other
breaks in sloped surfaces which will deter development of erosion channels.
We feel confident that 2:1 slopes are more than adequate for erosion control,
especially when the majority of the material left in place will be undisturbed
parent material. Field investigation will prove tha 1'/Z:1 slopes, which the
county used in filling the old landfill area in the drain gully adjacent
west of Trail Gulch, are still standing relatively undisturbed. These were
loose filled slopes with minimal surface disturbance to discourage water
erosion and they have seemed to work adequately.
We hope this assists you in completing your assessment of our mining and
reclamation plan. If we can be of any other assistance or if you require any
additional information please don't hesitate to contact us.
S ncerel ,
t
o' and ingley
Encl: copy of Eagle County Special Use Permit
Receipt of Public Notice from Eagle Telecommunication.
cc: Mr. Dave Atkins, Bureau of Land Management w/o encl.
R~ ~~ ~2I~T,'I~1TG CO~P~.11TY
