SOILS AND VEGETATION
• EXHIBIT I and J
The following information was obtained from site
observations and the Soil Survev of Pueblo Area, Colorado, a
publication printed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the
Soil Conservation Service. The seed mix we propose is based on a
native species common to the site and surrounding areas. The
guidelines in PLANT MATERIALS FOR USE ON SURFACE-MINED LANDS IN
ARID AND SEMIARID REGIONS, an SCS publication were used to
prepare the seed mixture rates that follow, the rates are
applicable to drilling. This mix will place 60± seeds/sgft/pls
and exceeds the recommended 40 seeds/sgft/pls in the reference.
Soil units are shown on an excerpt from Map 20 of the SCS
Publication, on page 32 following this text.
1.
2.
3.
3.
4.
5.
Current cover percent is: 15$
Topsoil depth on site averages: 0 to 16 inches.
Overburden Depth on site: 0 to 8 feet.
Seeding dates recommended: November 1 (after first freeze)
to April 30 (after last frost).
Fertilizer: Phosphate at 40 lb/ac and nitrogen at 40 lb/ac.
Seeding recommendation for area:
NOTE:
Seed Rate PLS/acre
Blue Grama 0.50
Sideoats Grama 3.00
Western Wheatgrass (Barton) 2.00
Crested Wheatgrass 1.00
Green Needlegrass 1.00
White Prairie clover 0.50
8.00*
Indicated rate if drilled.
