2.04.6 Geology Description
• (1) Surface Mining
(a) A description of the general geology including
maps illustrating the stratigraphy and structure within the
proposed mine area is found in Appendix C. A geologic map with
cross sections is also included, Exhibits C-2, C-3 and C-4
have been prepared in accordance with Section 2.10.
(i) The nature, depth, and thickness of the
coal seams to be mined, along with each stratum of the overburden
and the stratum immediately below the lowest coal seam to be mined
are shown on the geologic cross sections of the proposed premit
area (Exhibits C-3 and C-4, Appendix C).
(ii) The strike and dip of the beds within the
proposed permit area are shown on Exhibits C-SA and C-SB, Appendix C.
•
(b)(i) A complete description and analysis of
the results of test borings or core samplings is found in Appendix C.
(A) The location of subsurface water is
discussed in Appendix C.
(B) Lithologic and electric logs of drill holes
used in the cross sections are found at the end of Appendix C.
(C) The physical properties of each stratum
within the overburden are discussed in Appendix C.
(D) The results of the chemical analyses on
the overburden samples are found in Tables 4 and 10, Appendix C.
A discussion of these results is also found in Appendix C.
(E) Analyses of the Sudduth Coal are presented
in Tables 2 and 7, Appendix C.
(iii) The Division did not require test borings
or core samples to be collected and analyzed to greater depths than
was performed.
