E X H 2 B I T I~ -- M= N 2 N G F L A N
Mininq_ at this si±e has beeun under •a ilc.i permit issu?d in
1989. It is hoped that mining can continue for
approximately 10 years et the site with the present demand.
A special use permit was t,bteined fx'om Pueblo County for 48
acres. Our intention is not to mine the entire 48 acres as
some of the land is wetlands that will not be disturbed and
some of the land is not feasible to mine because of poor
materials. It is estimated that demand for materials from
this source will remain to be approximately 50.000 tons per
year.
Topsoil of the surface layer will be removed to a depth of
approximately 6 inches. Temporary stockpiles of topsoil
will be seeded with Creasted Wheatgrass at a rate of 5
Lbs./acre PLS i{ they remain in place for over three
months.
The deposit of useable material varies in thickness from
4-10 feet in depth. Mining of the site consists of
removing the gravel caps from the tops of the hills. In
most cases this will leave a relatively flat area after
excavation that should not be prone to erosion. Any
natural drainage patterns will be maintained and not sloped
any steeper than 3:1. Existing roads and accesses will be
userd throughout the life of the pit. An access permit has
been obtained from the Highway Department for the change in
uses of the access from farm use to use es a pit entrance.
Any and ell equipment used in the pit is portable in
nature. Operations that will be conducted in the pit will
be crushing and from time to time an asphalt plant might be
located in the pit. Location of the plant sites will vary
es mining progresses.
No groundwater will be disturbed by mining operations. No
mining will be conducted below groundwater elevation end
materials will not be removed within et least two feet
above groundwater elevation. All water used at the site
fox• pollution controls will be trucked to the site. It
wi].1 be purchased from area farmers or towns near the site.
Since it is likely that surplus material will be generated
// rn the form of natural fines that have limited use it is
likely that these fines will be placed approximately 6-12
c inches deep over the disturbed area prior to topsoiling.
~ These fines will be stockpiled around the perimeter of the
.,disturbed area until reclamation can proceed without
ini:erference from pit traffic.
