BENNETT SAND & GRA~L ~ III' I
5500 E. 56TH AVENUE
COMMERCE CITX, CO 80022
(303)853-0053 June 07, 2001 RECEIVED
(303) 853-0083 FAX
curt c E toot
i>~ii'Sion of Minerals an6 GealogY
Division of Minerals and Geology
Department of Natural Resources
Attn: Thomas A. Schreiner
1313 Sherman St Room 215
Denver, Co 80203
Dear Mr. Schreiner:
In response to your letter of June 1, 2001, regarding the Bennett Sand ~
Gravel, Pit #2 adequacy review, please be advised of the following:
In response to 6.4.3 Exhibit C and the question by the Colorado Division
of Wildlife, be advised that any work on the proposed pit including grading or
whatever terminates approximately seven hundred and eight two (782) feet
north of 64th Ave. There will be no work in the waterway, there will be no work
near the waterway, there will be no trees removed in that area. All the work will
be done, basically on the hillside, west and north of Kiowa Creek.
In response to 6.4.4 Mining plan, the question regarding storage of
petroleum products, please be advised that we have a secured metal building in
which petroleum products are stored on site. This small storage building is a
portable building on skids and is locked for security. On site, there would be one
thousand (1000) gallon storage tank for diesel fuel for the two (2) loaders and
power screen on site. That is the only equipment which would be used on site
and we would propose that the storage tank be installed within a bermed area
with a liner as provided by Colorado Lining. The bermed area would be built to
contain one hundred ten (110) percent of the maximum volume of the tank and
would be approximately fifty (50) feet above the water table.
Iri response to the request for the depth of the overburden to be removed
and the depth of the deposit to be mined in the overall pit depth, be advised of
the following: There is very little overburden on the area and in most cases the
sand is on the surtace, thereby making it very, very difficult to grow any type of
material on this soil. The sand will only be removed from areas where
overburdened would be less than two (2) feet, due to economics. The depth of
deposit to be mined, based on test holes, would be from seven (7) to fifteen (15)
feet and there is more than adequate material on site for restoration to fill any
areas so mined.
