ERO Resouroes
CJ
This oomplex occurs in a few small areas in pockets on sides lopes and
developed froe fine-textured, calcareous residuum frog interbedded
siltstons and shale. 7t is comprised of about 70 percent Boettcher silt
loam and 20 percent rock outcrop. Small areas of Moyerson soils were
iraluded in mapping which occupy about IO percent of the unit. Moyerson
soils are shallow and fine-textured.
The Boettcher soil is moderately deep, calcareous and wall-drained. In a
typical profile, the surface layer is pale brown silt loam about 4 inches
thick. The subsurface soil is light yellowish brown silt loam about 8
inches thick. The subsoil is brown silty play about 6 inches thick. The
substratum is pale brown calcareous clay about 5 inches thick aril is
underlain by siltstons and shale at a depth of 23 inches or more.
The Boettcher soil has slow permeability and moderate runoff. The erosion
hazard is moderate to high from water and low from wind. Available
• waterholdirg capacity is moderate. Effective rooting depth is ?0 to 30
inches.
The rock outcrop is primarily e~osed siltstone and shale, some of wF~ich
are the result of erosion by gullies. Included with rook outorop are very
shallow and shallow skeletal soils adjacent to exposed bedrock.
This soil is used for livestock grazing and wildlife habitat. The
vegetation is primarily mixed perennial grasses and big sagebrush with a
few scattered juniper associated with rock outcrop areas.
The average depth of suitable topsoil material is 22 inches. This
material ie rated fair with suitability decreasing with depth.

7I.1-2~
